What age would you start using a shopping bag with wheels/shopping trolley? I thought they were for older people but my friend says they are for young people too. Just wondering what people think. KYGrace replied: "depends on where you live - in NYC, where you have to walk for miles...sure, why not use 'em!"
evilemmabear replied: "NEVER EVER!
it would feel like giving into old age! much rather keep the pain of the ripped carrier bag finger look"
Kel replied: "They're for anybody of any age who's smart enough to use them instead of lugging a bunch of heavy stuff around in their arms!!"
SK replied: "i wouldn't personally use one (im 21).. as I think they're for older people. I have no problem with carrying my shopping - good exercise!! Old people need them for a reason. I have seen the odd young person use them though!"
dancetilldawn202 replied: "you must be not be from america since you said trolley which I think is awesome btw the way anywho um people in general in th US don't us the shopping bags with wheels but all ages use the shopping carts it is more common with older people but everyone uses them
please answer mine?:
"
LYNN S replied: "You don't have to be any age. Some people can't drive their cars for all sorts of reasons, others like the exercise of walking and use these carts. So if you want to use it..go ahead..nobody will care. Enjoy your next shopping trip!"
SHARON P replied: "I use one now (I'm 39) and have been for a few years. I haven't got access to a car and my shopping would break my back if I carried it. I have a nice trendy pink stripy one at the moment. Not at all 'little old lady'."
friendly chick replied: "I'm in London & there's no way i'd be using those bags with wheels until I'm about 70, this is a funny question actually but hey I have an image to uphold lol not a fashion victim but I think for my age & look i'd get a few stares. I did it once with my friend years ago when her mum made us but it was a laugh with the 2 of us never on my own!." could someone explain the benifits of a backpack, over say a suitably sized sports bag with wheels? I have seen backpackers with these enormous loads on their backs, at railway stations and bus stations, while I just leave my luggage at the left luggage office, and travelling ?? well I never have to walk far,as there is always a tuk tuk driver clamouring to help me with my bag.. Why a backpack, surely even empty they are heavy quokka replied: "Pavements in Asia will ruin the wheels on your luggace very fast
They are great for Airports
but no good for Bush walking"
mgirl88 replied: "Ive been contemplating the exact same thing with my upcoming trip to Bangkok and I say the answer depends on your load when you head back. If you anticipate that you will be doing alot of shopping, then perhaps a sports bag has the space to accommodate the added purchases. But if your really just in it to take in the sights and do alot of walking around without leaving your stuff at a hotel, then a backpack will work best for you. :)"
peanutz replied: "Durability comes to mind straight away. The backpack can take strains that some sports bag with wheels cannot. You do not want malfunctioning wheels or broken seams when fully packed, do you?"
negeshia replied: "When the wheels fell off my suitcase with wheels and I had to carry it 1/2 mile, I turned to the Backpack. Its just a matter of preference."
karazyal replied: "There are probably more people with shoulder bags and suitcases than backpacks!
Most of the time you are going from airport to bus/taxi and then to hotel/hostel where you leave your bag in the hotel when you go out on the town! Even when you go on a tour out in the sticks you most often ride in vans and if you have a bag it is a small carry bag.
I use a shoulder bag and a big wheel bag. I used to use two shoulder bags. So far my "wheel" bag has endured around 5 years in and around Thailand, Philippines and other places. Yes, often I have to move to the street to pull the d**m thing! I prefer bags because it is easier to lock them up! I have a strap that I use off my shoulder to carry the wheel bag up stairs when necessary. The only time I use a backpack is when I am on a bike.
I guess if you intend to do a real "walkabout" or play "Stanley looking for Livingstone" it might come in handy! Most of all I think many people carry backpacks because they think it looks cool! If you intend to do real walking treks and actually need stuff from your pack it might come in handy."
Lee L replied: "Heavy rain plus mud and dirt will clog the wheels!" Where can I find a strong shopping bag with wheels in London...? Looking for a strong, water proof solid shopping bag, does anyone know any store/boutique in London that sells shopping bags? fleetcommander@rocketmail.com replied: "you can get them in the strong shopping bag with wheels shop,
oxford street."
charlie replied: "Any of the big department stores in London will stock them. Harrods in Knightsbridge. Selfridges on Oxford St. or for a slightly cheaper selection John Lewis on Oxford St.
There are also many specialist bag shops in London many of which will sell sshopping bags." I am searching for a lightweight, durable and medium sized suitcase/bag with wheels. Any recommendations ? We are frequent travellers so want alightweight medium size case or bag Ginny replied: "I have a Skyway that I really like. I bought it from ebags.com. I'm sure my particular model is no longer available, but there's probably a newer generation one like it. Ebags.com is a good place to look, because you can narrow your search by size or brand or material and you can mark things for comparison. They give detail about dimensions, weights, etc. (take with a small grain of salt, because they often come direct from mfg.) and they usually have pictures of the insides. They also have a lot of customer reviews, both positive and negative. Prices are pretty good."
justbeingher replied: "I prefer Samsonite hardside luggage because if you pack tight, your clothes stay nice. I pick sizes based on how long I am traveling and what kind of clothes I'm bringing. Hanging clothes - tha hardside. Casual clothes, a duffle with wheels. I just bought a great bag for short trips - it's a small wheeled dufffle with fortified sides. I got it at a sporting goods store called Academy."
amatullah replied: "you should get a leisure or protocool suitcase those last a long time they dont rip easily"
JB replied: "You sound like serious travelers. As such, take what you like from the answers below, then visit a luggage-only store and get the best, for you never regret buying the best."
courtlyn_01 replied: "Try the Rick Steves bag. Expensive but worth it as they last forever"
Gin Sling replied: "Go small,
I always use a suiter (suit carring over shoulder bag) that way I don't need to wait in line for my luggage to turn up - or not - though you do need to be carefull of toiletries and stuff with secuity.
Alternatly go for a hard shell small wheelie bag - but not a flash looking one - baggage handlers do love to have a peep inside from time to time. If you get a locking zip and there's an outside pocket they will open that then slash through the seperating lining to get to the main section...
Its worth checking with major airlines before you buy as baggage sizes for carry on gear have reduced considerably and this is likely to continue." Do I really need a SnowBoard bag with Wheels.? I just bought my first snowboard, and am going to be taking it to a couple of places this winter. I'm from Texas and will be flying anywhere I go. I was looking for a bag and saw the Burton Wheelie Gig bag for like $100. At first it sounded like a good idea to get wheels on the bag, but the more i think of it I'm not really going to drag this thing around much. I'm going to check it in a the airport and take it to the rental car place wherever i'm at. At the resort, I'll take the snowboard out and walk to the lifts with the snowboard. So my question is, should i go with the regular (non-wheeled) Gig Bag or can anyone vouch for the importance (or convinience) of the wheels on the bag?
P.S. I have a 165cm board, and that bag comes in 166 and 181, is the 166 too tight? If I go with the 181, do you think its going to be sliding around in there. I'm planning to buy online so trying it out is not an option.
Thanks! R4L replied: "If you're going to be in an airport, I'd recommend getting one, cause you never know how long you might end up standing there with it, and if you go to a major airport, you may have to drag it around a bit. If it was just being tossed under a bus, that's different, but this is a lot more travel."
Richard D replied: "If yor need it for travel, sure. On the hill/at the resort, waste of time."
phil replied: "Seriously i'd just go for the traditional sling-over-the-shoulder bag. If you're shoulder get's tired from carrying it just switch to the other one or just carry it by hand. also i don't think rolling it around in the snow and ice to the lifts or lodge would work out too hot.
and get the 166 and if it doesnt fit too well send it back and just look somewhere else for one. having a 181 and having that board move around all the time would be a pain in the ass."
fishboy replied: "I think you shoud, cause carying a board around gets really annoying coz of the w8.
and rolling bags are so more convinient."
vanschick1 replied: "I have the wheelie gig bag and I'd say yes, you want wheels. Just waiting in line to check the bag alone I was glad it had wheels! Better to just be able to wheel it around than to have to keep picking it up and putting it down the whole time.
I don't JUST put my snowboard in my bag either - so it can get pretty heavy. I put my board, bindings, boots, outerwear, helmet etc etc in there.. last time I flew with it I had shoes and a sleeping bag and a bunch of other stuff in there, and I think it was something like 48lbs!
About the length, I'm not too sure. I have a 150, so either way my board is small for the bag. But I don't mind the extra room - like I said, I bring more than just my snowboard, so it gets filled either way!"
Mikey replied: "I have a roller bag, and I would highly recommend it. You'll carry the bag much farther than you think you will, even just around the airport, and they get heavy very quickly. Some airports are monolithic, and you may find yourself pulling the bag 200 yards just from the baggage claim to the curb. It can be even more cumbersome to carry a snowboard bag if you have other stuff to carry as well. The 166 will be fine for your board. In addition to the Burton, look at the Da Kine low roller. It's a little cheaper, and has a smaller profile so it's hard to over pack.
Be wary of the 50 lb limit imposed by airlines, as well as them limiting you to only one checked bag. It's really easy to overweight these giant snowboard bags, so it will be a good idea to get a maximum size carry on in addition to the roller bag (and in addition to your personal item, like purses, backpacks, or laptop bags)" 10 points!!..suitcase or duffel bag with wheels for my trip? i am traveling from US to Egypt Janey replied: "A duffle bag might be a bit lighter and I guess has room to expand a little but it offers no protection for your belongings. A more rigid case is easier to pack (because you can open it right out), easier to find your stuff in (you don't have to pull everything out) and won't get squished."
Cameron_xxoo replied: "You need something thats light and easy to carry. I would choose those big Country Road bags. Maybe a duffel bad with the wheels"
demaissoneuve replied: "You would not believe how little you need, compare to how much people normally take with them.
Once you get it to a bare minimum, but no skipping the absolute essentials, put them in a duffel bag, with both
shoulder straps, and a handle to carry it like you do a luggage.
Not you will be amazed what a more enjoyable experience that would be, but you will wonder how much more fun you would have had on your previous trips, had you done so all along." Who made luggage with wheels and handle ? Am I the only one who HATES them damn bags with wheels and handles ? I know I'm not the only one. We have all gotten trapped behind someone who has one of these contraptions. People who use them tend to have a 10 foot gap between them the bag and you. The next one I see, I will treat it like I'm about to score the winning field goal kick for my team and boot the hell out of it. Meh... replied: "hhhmm... i dont know who made them.. but i do kno they r a convenience when u need them...." Where can I buy a set of strap-on wheels to go on my bag? It's just a set of wheels on a frame with a strap...? I've seen some for sale in a department store in Leicester but when I went back they were gone.
All they were was a pair of wheels on a small frame with a strap that went over your bag and a handle so you could pull it along. I've wanted one for a while but didn't know anywhere in the UK that sold them. I do have a bag with wheels on but it's really too big for just going to my boyfriend's on a weekend so I wanted to put my weekend bag on this frame thing and pull it along.
A friend from America had one but I don't seem to be able to find them in the UK. Can anyone help? velcropap replied: "most discount stores sell them in the usa.
maybe ask at the store you saw them and see if they will be getting more in." I going to europe for a month but I'm taking a rolling duffel bag, is this a good choice? I leave in a couple of weeks and I'm still concerned if I should change my bag and go out and buy a backpack. The negatives of taking a backpack is that I might get tired more easily as opposed to a duffel bag with wheels. ilikeatosayhollycrap replied: "It's fine as long as the wheels and axles aren't plastic. Plastic parts wear out very quickly on old European walkways."
Princess replied: "Your duffel bag is fine as long as it is good quality. Anyway, what's the worst thing that happens. It breaks and you buy a backpack anyway. No worse off then!"
cbm727 replied: "I would take it if it is in good condition, but not if it is totally new!" How can i take out the bad smell. My cat Peead on my travel bag.? its a small bag with Wheels, its very good i don't want to throw it so can any body help me to clean it and take out the smell,i washed it but the smell is still there . dreamrmom2007 replied: "try using a special cleaner that destroys the enzymes in cat urine. you can get it almost anywhere. hope this helps"
? replied: "I see that you already washed it. You need something that takes out the odor left in there by your cat. 8 in 1 products puts out a spray that removes pet odors. You can buy it at any pet store or your local Wal-mart. I have to use the same stuff sometimes."
Lucky 1 replied: "There is this stuff called "OUT" and it's in a spray bottle with pump in the pet section at Wal-mart for about $3-4 dollars. It is the ONLY thing I have found to rid that smell of cat urine or cat spray! Good luck!"
Deanna P replied: "There is a spray out there called "FON" Feline Odor Neutralizer - your local veterinarian should carry this. I have heard that this works well - we can't keep on our shelves at work"
michele_cat_cyprus replied: "Cat urine contains fatty deposits which need to be broken down by enzymes. Most cleaning solutions don't remove these fats and it's the smell of those fats decaying which is so awful.
You can make your own cleaning solution by mixing 10% biological (enzymatic) washing powder and warm water. Rinse thoroughly with cold water and allow to dry naturally. Afterwards, use a plant mister to spray surgical spirit (antiseptic cheap from the pharmacy) and work it into the fibres with a nail brush to remove any fats that might have been missed by the cleaning solution.
I've used this method for cleaning carpets and found it really effective. Test it on a small area of your travel bag first as it may not be colour fast on more delicate fabrics." |
